July Favorites

Happy last day of July friends! Since it’s the last day of the month, there is no time like today to share with you my July favorites; aka- my favorite beauty products from the month of July.

one | Marcelle New-Age System (Includes New·Age Precision Day Cream (1.7oz), New·Age Precision 8 in 1 Power Serum (1oz), New·Age Comforting Foaming Cleanser (3.4oz), and Eye Make-Up Remover Lotion (5oz))
Until this month, I had only tried Marcelle's BB Cream in Golden Glow, and had loved it; but wasn't sold enough to spend the $27 on it. Then in my July Birchbox, I received a sample of the 8 in 1 power serum, and and seriously fell in love. Yes, I am only 28, but I figured that it may be time to start thinking about winkles, and I loved that the power serum makes my face feel so soft and seems to improve my complexion (by that I mean, my face isn't so red with it). So, I decided to cash in my Birchbox points, and grab up the New-Age system (which btw, you receive all full size products). I absolutely love everything about it! The makeup remover is seriously the best I have ever used. The day cream is a non-sticky, lightweight cream that you can't even tell you're wearing. And the cleanser makes my face feel luxurious. Other than my Urban Decay Naked Basics pallet, this may be my best purchase ever!

This was another product that I had purchased with my Birchbox points, and I am so happy that I did. I had heard about it and read the reviews, and the main thing that sold me, was the SPF quality. For some odd reason, even though I have like 200 lip balms and chap sticks, I don't really have any that have SPF. So I bought it, and have been using it every day that I go outside- it has a great scent, and doesn't taste like wax.

I tend to have really dry skin in the summer, and hate how ling it takes to put on lotion after a bath. This stuff take all of 7 minutes to spray on and rub in, sprays in different directions (so I can get all the parts of my back that my short arms can't), and smells amazing. I can totally understand why it recieved the Allure Best of Beauty Seal! I swear, putting lotion in a sprayable bottle was the best invention ever.

So, I had been using a sample of Dr. Brant Glow revitalizing eye cream and I loved it, but when I went to buy it, I was not paying $55 for it. Unfortunately, I am starting to get get dark circles under my eyes (lack of sleep, stress, being a mom, idk), and needed something. So after doing some research, I found Pixi. It was affordable- $16- and when I first used it, I loved it. It has a soft luminous glow, and is formulated with lavender water, sodium hyaluronate, vitamin E and aloe vera. I love that I can wear it with or without makeup and it still does it's job! Amazing stuff!

I have a habit of using facial wipes to cleanse my face when I wake up in the morning, and using them to take off my makeup at night. I usually use eye make up remover, but for the rest of the face, it's a wipe's job. Simple Skincare's wipes are fragrance free, and free of dyes and harsh ingredients, so they don't irritate my sensitive skin. They are super convenient, and don't leave my face feeling greasy after I use them.

Did you have any favorite beauty products from this month? Have you ever tried any of mine?

The Maxi

dress | Walmart (sold in stores) // tank | Target // necklace | Walmart // bracelets | Claires

I don't know if I've ever told you, but my favorite and go-to outfit in the summer is the maxi. I am a huge fan of versatile pieces and the maxi is definitely one of them. It can be dressed up or down, worn with flip flops/sandals or heels or even flats, can be worn with a cardigan, jean jacket, or the ever trendy chambray shirt, and is undoubtedly a transitional piece. The maxi is also my favorite especially in the summer, because it's light and airy, and sometimes a nice summer breeze just feels nice on your legs!

My favorite maxi to date is my black maxi from Walmart. Yes, I just said Walmart. It has a crochet in the back (you can tell I'm not a fashion blogger, because I never photographed this favorite detail of mine), is super roomy, and is long enough to cover my feet (so I don't really have to do my nails).

I love pairing my maxi with simple jewelry. A long necklace and some simple bangles are the perfect accessory :)

Do you wear maxis? What's your favorite one? How do you style yours?

Is it sad that I can sum up my weekend in one sentence? Yes? No? I don't know...

'Cause I'm so star stuck

I know that it's Saturday, but, I have finally found some time to sit down and give you guys my "Friday Post". Honestly, this post has been written up since about Wednesday, but I have been adding things here and there, and well, this is the final, final post. Enjoy!

Favorite Moments of the week
one | My lil family and I went to the county fair, and I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Erin from Living in Yellow. Even though our meeting was brief (she was going to a concert), I was star stuck as she was super nice and sweet.

two | While at that county fair, Lil Man rode his first fair ride, and then second and third, and we had a blast.

three | I crossed two things off my summer bucket list this week: ride a ride at the fair & wear shorts out in public. Bam!

four | My brother finally put a working motor in his go kart, and well, after some redneck-engineering, we were able to take it out :)

five | Target is having some amazing clearance this week, and I have been able to grab some OPI nail polish for under $7.

Favorite Blog Posts
Blogging is about community, so I wanted to share some bloggy love and tell you guys about some posts that I LOVED this week!

one | You are More than a Number by Anne @ Love the Here and Now | Anne wrote such an inspirational post about self acceptance and I think all women should read it.

two | Thoughts Of A Blogger During Summer by Whitney @ I Wore Yoga Pants To Work | This is my first summer blogging and I swear Whitney read my mind...

July Birchbox Review

Another month and come and gone, and guess what... I am still in love with the fact that I decided to grab myself a Birchbox subscription.

For those of you who don't know what Birchbox is, it's a monthly subscription box filled with 4-5 deluxe samples and 1 full size product every month according to the beauty profile that you fill out. You basically receive beauty products (which includes hair and makeup) and one lifestyle item for $10 a month. You can cancel at any time, and it's a pretty nice "try before you buy" service, as no box is ever the same.

This month Birchbox teamed up with Women's health and the theme was "Power Up." Basically they wanted to give subscribers a way to energize their routines, and even included a little book with 12 Power Up challenges that inspire to maximize workouts, sleep, and all the stuff in between. Pretty neat idea, huh?

The first thing I noticed upon opening up the box that contained this month's box, was the colorful new design for the month. You see, Birchbox has a signature brown box, and they usually have a design on the inside. Not this month.

Opening my box, I was pleasantly surprised. I have had some great boxes over the past months (I've been a subscriber since March), but this box wasn't my top favorite ever.

I received:

Oh, also included with the box, was a certificate for a FREE year of Women's Health. Ok, you guys should know that I don't exercise and I am more of a Cosmo, Redbook, Glamour kinda girl, so the nice thing about the certificate: I can print out a confirmation of my Birchbox subscription, fill out the certificate, send it in, and recieve a $9.99 refund! Yes, that actually makes my July box FREE!!!

My favorite product from July's box was the Marcelle New·Age 8 in 1 Power Serum. I have been looking for a serum/ face moisturizer that I could fall in love with, and well, Marcelle definitely fit my bill. It wasn't sticky, glided on my skin, and made my face soft. Since I loved it so much, I actually cashed in my points* and bought the Marcelle New-Age Gift Set, which includes a serum, bottle of makeup remover, day cream, and cleanser. Truthfully, Marcelle may become my new favorite makeup/skin care line. (I loved their BB cream from my May Birchbox.)

My second favorite product was the Coastal Scents® Revealed 2 Palette Set. I received a four of the twenty shades in the palette, and loved all of them. I am a neutrals type of gal, and my lord, the colors were beautiful. They looked amazing, but light, when I applied, and stayed for the whole day. Definitely a contender against my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette.

New this month, was an option to pick one of your samples, and I chose the RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer in Ambrosia. As a bonus, the also sent me a RUFFIAN Dressing Room Nail Lacquer Remover Towelette. The color of the nail polish is beautiful and metallic. Longevity was around a week, week and a half.

The Harvey Prince Hello Body Cream smells amazing, and is a pretty nice sized sample.

Out of the whole box, I really didn't like the suki® exfoliate foaming cleanser. Sure it does the job, and left my face feeling amazing, but it has a lemon smell, and I HATE lemon. Change the smell, and I would definitely buy it.

Overall it was a great box and I personally think that you should try Birchbox out. I mean it's only ten bucks. What else could you be spending ten bucks on?

If you want to sign up for Birchbox, you can do it here.

*I guess I should tell you that I earn points if you sign up through my referral link, and those points eventually lead to "free" products, but I swear to you that this is not a sponsored post, as Birchbox has no idea who I am... (but they do have my credit card info). And if you sign up, and then review the products that you receive in your box... YOU also receive points, which lead to free products. So, it's a win/win!

ps... have you entered the $60 Paypal cash giveaway that me and some friends are hosting yet? You know you want to... yep, you can do that here

We're from the country, and we like it that way

Since I kinda was ahead of the confessional game yesterday, I decided to put another little spin on confessional Wednesday: today I am confessing that I can be a little country, and even redneck at times.

You see, where I live, there is a road/highway that kinda cuts the city in half, and if you live south of that line, you are basically country. Of course, I am not talking like backwoods of Louisiana county, I am talking about falling into the unincorportated school system country. Understand the difference? I mean, it's not like we have to drive 2 hours to the closest Walmart (it's less than 20 minutes), and we do have a Target, Sephora, and Ulta within 30 minutes. So no, we are not country country, but we sure do like to act like it sometimes. Let me show you some of the ways... *Be prepared to view some cute pics of Lil Man...

We like to talk to livestock....

And then love on them... #moocowlove
Please don't think that I actually have cows... this was at the county fair

We teach our children at a young age that John Deere is the way to go...

We like to fix up old go karts with tractor motors redneck style... (Yes, my house is surrounded by corn fields & that's my brother btw)

And then we like to take rides in them, because hey, what else is there to do?

And the children have a blast...

Sure those are only some of the ways that my family and I can be a little country, but we also love the feel of grass on our bare feet, a beer on a hot day, making sun tea on the back porch, helping people, and so much more.

Oh, btw... do you wanna win some money?

You're welcome... :)

Things that I just don't get

I guess I am starting my confessions a bit early this week, because today, I am going to share the things in this world that I just don't get...

*Disclaimer... I may push a few buttons here, so get over it. These are my opinions, and if you can't play nice, then go sit in the corner.

one | Facebook drama
I shouldn't have to elaborate here... it's just so annoying!

two | midi rings
Sure, some are cute, but I just feel like they would either get in the way and fall off...

three | high waisted short shorts
Is there really a need to show off the bottoms of your ass cheeks to everyone? No, there isn't.

four | crop tops
Just another way for women to look skanky. Personally, I think they look horrible. Especially on pre-teen girls.

five | leggings as pants
I did a post on this, and I really need to go back and revamp the crap out of it, because people still do it. Please, for the love of all things, wear something that covers your bum!

six | hashtag everything
Why? Just why?

seven | skinny girls calling themselves fat
Just stop. It's annoying and makes me feel like a beached whale.

eight | fat shaming
I read a story about a bigger girl who posted pictures of herself in a bra and panties on her Instagram, and guess what... Instagram deleted her account. Seriously it was rude, and if she was a size two, she would of had like 200 likes.

nine | the media saying that OITNB is glamorizing going to jail
Really people? C'mon. If you want to go to jail because you think it's cool, then you need to be in psych ward. Or at least watch some OZ, and learn how to shank someone.

ten | child abuse
Ok, maybe I can understand why, because I am a parent, but damn people... walk away.  Sure, I will be the first to endorse a swat on the behind, but there is no need for excessive punishment or anything else. All of this beating a child until the point of no return, shaken baby syndrome, and sexual abuse is certainly uncalled for. Stop it. Stop it now.

eleven | leaving kids or dogs in hot cars
What the f is wrong with this world?

Ok, we all know there is alot more than eleven things that I just don't get, but I'm getting a bit annoyed, so I'm gonna stop there.

My top ten blogging essentials

When bloggers make lists like "how to blog" and "top ten blogging essentials", non-bloggers tend to roll their eyes. Why? Well, because non-bloggers just don't get it sometimes. Bloggers like to photograph their food, take trips just to recap them, buy expensive dslr cameras and put them to use, dress in shirts that scream "I'm a blogger", and love to have the word blogger on their coffee mugs and wine glasses. Why? Well, because we are a different bred of people. We are the crazy ones.

Today I am going to talk about my top ten blogging essentials. Why? Well, because I have nothing else to talk about on a Monday... Sure that isn't the reason, but maybe, just maybe someone may read this post and realize too, that they can become a blogger.

One | computer
Yeah, I know, this one is a no brainer, but sometimes, you can be a blogger and NOT own a computer. For me, it helps. I currently have a HP ENVY dv6 Notebook PC that I got with my grad school money, and truthfully I love it. Sure it has Windows 8, which I really don’t like, but it is so much better than the Dell I used to have.

Two | word processing software
I usually write my blog posts in MS Word and then copy and paste into my blogger post template thingy. It saves time and doesn’t use up my data (my internet is through Verizon Wireless…). Plus any words that are misspelled, Word is there to fix them for me.

Three | planner
I am a planner, most of the time. I like to write down my blog post ideas, on the days I want them posted, and I like to see them in front of me. I also need to be reminded of giveaway dates, link ups, and when my sponsorships run. This is where my Plum Paper designs planner comes in.

Four | a great camera & tripod
When I say great, it just needs to be great to you. I currently have a Sony Cyber-shot point and shoot that is 8.1 megapixels and a Samsung Galaxy S4 that has a 13 megapixel camera. My point is: you don’t have to have an expensive DSLR to take amazing pictures.

Five | easy to use photo editing software
I am the first to admit that I use Photo Shop Elements to edit a lot of my photographs (mostly fashion/style ones), and make my monthly favorites collages, but I also have an addiction to PicMonkey. It is free (not a bagillion dollars like PSE), and so user friendly. And now, you can edit your photos, add overlays, and even use fonts that are on YOUR computer (best feature ever).

Six | photo background & props
Honestly, when I started blogging, I just took random pictures of clothes, jewelry, or whatever in my kitchen, bathroom, or in my closet. I never realized that in order to become Pinterest-Famous, you need to have clean photos, with the subject of the photo being focused on. Basically you need to think of your photos being a representation of your blog. Myself, I use foam white boards for a clean background, and fake flowers, wine glasses, things that come out of my special edition Birchboxes... basically whatever I find that makes whatever I am photographing pretty. It will make a difference... believe me.

Seven | social media accounts
Granted this is another no brainer, but having a social media presence is downright essential to the success of your blog. It allows you to spread the word and connect with everyone on a whole ‘nother level. Also if you are one of those people who like to plan ahead, Hootsuite is there to schedule your tweets and Facebook page posts.

Eight | time
Blogging takes time. Period. You have to write posts, promote said posts, read comments, reply to said comments, interact with other bloggers, and so much more. It is very time consuming, but so much fun.

Nine | creativity
Creative people think outside the box. If you are blogging, then you are thinking outside of the box.

Ten | alcohol.
When I refer to alcohol, I am referring to wine, btw. Wine is an amazing substance, and it has helped me write quite a few blog posts. And having an Etsy Shop that designs wine glasses, ain't bad either. Yep, you should check out the shop :)

What are your top blogging essentials?

How the blogosphere is just like high school

Today, I decided to do some internet research...

The reason for this research was because a blogger that I had been communicating with, basically dropped of the face of the Earth, and I had no idea why. You see, I have about a handful of blogs that I will read daily, and then there are about twenty/twenty-five that I frequent every week. These are my go-to blogs. The ones that I absolutely love reading. For all the rest, I rely on my Bloglovin. But my blog reading habits are not the basis of this post, and I shouldn't even have to justify them.

What is the basis of this post, is what happened when I decided to Google said blogger, and was introduced into the world of blogger-bashing forums (my definition). Basically a lot of shit was said about this blogger, and she had had enough. She closed up shop, deleted her social media, and became a ghost again, due to all the mean and assine comments people were making about her and her blog.

Ok, I'm not here to side with or defend anyone, because I wasn't there, and I was never one of the people that was supposedly screwed over by her, but I truly thought that blogging was supposed to be about building community, not tearing people down and acting like we are in high school again. And yeah, I guess you can say that I drank the water, and my delusional state of riding around on unicorns that shit rainbows is growing out of control.

After reading a couple pages of the forums, I decided to Google this here blog. To my knowledge, nothing bad has ever been said about me or my blog- but then again, I really don't think that I give people anything to bitch about. And I am happy for that.

But back to what I was saying... I thought blogging was about individuality, kindness, sharing knowledge, making friends, being real, supporting, and so much more. I DIDN'T think it was about hurtful comments, being mean, tearing people down, talking behind someone's back, being an asshole, etc. etc. I mean, if you don't like someone's blog, keep it to yourself. Don't be an ass and broadcast your comments all over the internet. That's just rude. No one is making you read someone else's blog. Believe it or not, I actually read a comment referring to a blog friend of mine, in which the writer said that she and her friend had just read the blog to make fun of the writer. Ok, that is mean, and hurtful. Would you really want someone saying that about your blog?

Sure, if people are making comments about you and your blog, and you have some pretty thick skin, you can ignore them. BUT for some people, it's not that easy. In a really messed up way, blogger-bashing forums are just another way to bully someone, except in this case and point, the bullies don't use their real names. Cowards.

I could go on, but I'm going to choose not to.

Moral of the post: Don't be an asshole.

This week has been a blur of allergies because of this damn fall like weather in the middle of July, family drama that I can't talk about, and disappointment due to possibly not being able to get another car. So, this week's high five for Friday is gonna go a little differently.... I'm going to count down my five favorite things from the week, not my favorite moments.

#favtotalsocial | My life in five photos

Yesterday, I was a bad blogger... I had an idea of what I wanted to post, and guess what... I never wrote it up. You see, I have this calendar where I write down ALL of my blog post ideas, and what days I want to do them on, and well, yesterday was supposed to be a style post. But, as we all know, style posts usually include pictures of outfits and links to those outfits, and honestly, I just didn't have the time between all of the summer storms that we have been getting to actually go out, set up the tri-pod, and have myself a little photo shoot. I must apologize for this. Not only to you guys, but to myself. And I also missed Kathy's confessions. Wow.

Anyways, since I missed one of my favorite weekly linkups, I am definitely not missing Helene and Sarah's #totalsocial. Their link up is once a month, and gives bloggers a chance to connect via social media. July's monthly link up focuses on favorites- favorite photo, favorite memory, favorite whatever your little heart desires.

For my contribution to the link up, I am going to talk about pictures.

If someone asked you to summarize your life in five pictures or less, could you? And what if they told you that that had to be already taken- meaning that you couldn't go out and just take five random ones. I know a lot of bloggers who ask you to do this type of thing when you sponsor them, and I always have the hardest time with it.

Until now...

My family is the reason that I do everything. They are the reason that I breathe, the reason that I get through each day, the reason that I may be on verge of insanity, the reason that I have a purpose, the reason that I smile... the list could go on and on. The next five pictures convey that happiness that I feel on a daily basis because of my family. The next five pictures convey that love that I feel for them.

What would your five or less photos look like? Who would be in them?

Small Bathroom Organization

I'm not sure if I've ever talked about it before, but I basically live in a one bedroom apartment with my hubby, Lil Man, a dog, a cat, and a tortoise. And that means that there is one rather small-ish bathroom for two adults and a child... which was a problem until I discovered something...

When we first moved into our current living situation, I was not pleased with the bathroom. Sure, it seemed nice, but there really there wasn't alot of storage. I mean, sure there is a mirror with a medicine cabinet attached, an under the sink area, and a cabinet over my toilet, but there wasn't ANY room for all of my beauty products. AND since we rent from family, we really couldn't do anything permanent.

The first thing my hubby did was give me some shelves, which freed up the space on the sink. Side Note: I hate a cluttered sink!

So with all of the clutter off of the sink, I decided to maximize my under sink storage. Instead of getting some little shelves, I decided to pick some clear storage boxes up from the dollar store for under $6. The basket was free- it came with a bath set, but you can grab one at Michaels or Hobby Lobby for under $10, if you so choose.

BUT with the shelves and space actually maximized under the sink, I still didn't have anywhere to put my hair or makeup items. So I went to Walmart and picked up a Sterilite 3-drawer medium cart. I was certainly amazed that it fit perfectly into the space right beside the sink.

So how did I organize my drawers?

Drawer One || Hair accessories
The first drawer includes things that I use on a daily basis, and need to be in reach. Things like combs, brushes, bobbie pins, hair ties, alligator clips, etc. Basically anything that is NOT product, is in this drawer.

This drawer also has two accessory organizers that I grabbed at Walmart about six months ago. Before I grabbed them, the drawer had everything just thrown in.

Drawer Two || Hair products
There are two sections to this drawer: smaller products are in the green tub and the full size products are all over the drawer. Self Explanatory. And yes, I know I have alot of products.... Product junkie, remember?

Drawer Three || Makeup
Anything makeup related, except makeup remover and facial wipes, is in this drawer. I don't wear makeup every single day, so it doesn't have to be within immediate reach. The pink and black Benefit bag holds my "everyday" makeup, the polka dot holds extras that I don't want to go search for, the purple in the back holds my samples from Sephora, and then all my mascaras and eyeliners are together in cup in the back.

So there you go, a nicely organized bathroom. Sure, I could have showed you a picture of the cabinet above my toilet, but who really wants to see a toilet anyways?

How do you organize your bathroom? Any tips or tricks?
