Class of twenty-oh-four

Summer before Senior Year // Senior Picture // Graduation party with my Momma

This year marks ten years since I graduated high school. Woo hoo! Um... no. And the reminder? A Facebook group set up for all of the class of 2004 grads of my high school. Real classy, huh? Yeah, that's what I thought. Just the reminder that I needed of the fact that I'm getting old... At least I still get carded at the bar.

And I'm not even sure if I even want to go. I mean, I'm "friends" with a lot of the people I went to high school with on Facebook, so I pretty much "know" them. I know who has gotten married & divorced, who has had kids and who doesn't, who is living "the life" and who is in the same boat as me, and everything else. It's crazy that I would have need to pay upwards of fifty bucks to go hang out with a bunch of people that I haven't talked to for a reason. Am I right?

Personally I think in the last ten years, I have done good. Sure, I would love that "dream job", but I have gotten married, had a lil guy, have only gained like 50 pounds, and I am less than three weeks from holding a grad degree. Not too shabby.

But, in all honesty, I really haven't changed all that much from high school. Yes, my grammar has improved, but I still question how to spell certain words. I still love the same movies, music (N*sync forever!), and foods. Basically, I am still me, except now I know what a flat iron is, I don't leave the house without mascara, and I dress a hell of a lot better!

Maybe I should go, just to show people my awesomeness? To get drunk with all the "cool people" and then go off on the meanies? I really didn't have any bitchy people that I hated, though going all Romy and Michelle on someone would so make my day, so that wouldn't be a perk.

I don't know what would make me want to go. But maybe I should start looking for a dress and investing in some sunless tanner and spanx. You know, just in case.

Anyone ever gone to their 10 yr reunion? Got any good stories? Horror stories? Hilarious hook ups?

  1. I went to mine 1 1/2 years ago (I'm '02, but we had the reunion in November '12) and I really had fun. I had the same thoughts as you but I figure I why not? I also wanted to take my fiance (BF at the time) to show him off a little bit. No horror stories or anything like that. I did get to chat with someone whom I never talk to but that I spoke with frequently in HS. She passed away a few months later from cancer, so I was happy that I was able to catch up with her h at the reunion. I say, go, it only happens once!

  2. I didn't go to mine, but only because I had a wedding that same night. I had thought that I wouldnt go, because I still keep in touch with the people I want to, and "see" everyone else on fb. But, you never know who you might connect with differently now that its ten years later. I say why not?!

  3. I went to mine. At the time I was husbandless and childless so I felt kind of like a loser. I had a great job though. My best friend (the same one from HS) and I went together and had a good time. It felt weird seeing these people you knew your whole life and then catching up again after 10 years had passed. Thanks to Facebook you pretty much know what most people have going on but it is still weird being in a room with them again.
