Thirsty Thursday: February Recap

Welcome back to Thirsty Thursday, my fellow book lovers!

This month, I am going to do something a little different... I am actually going to give you a recap of the books I read, along with a recap of the actual story line of the book... you know like an actual book review!

I have also started a star review to go along with each book.

  • 1* Eh, not memorable
  • 2* Just ok.
  • 3* Good book, definitely recommend reading.
  • 4* Great book, can live without a print copy.
  • 5* Wow, would read again. Probably will get a print copy for my library at home.

So without further adieu...

I read 11 books in February (one was finished from January), and I liked the majority of them. I read on Kindle Unlimited, and I do that for a few reasons: 1) convenience- the books are literally at the tip of my fingers, and 2) it's cheaper. Kindle Unlimited is only $10 a month and it works like the library- you borrow a book and then return it. You can have up to 20 books in your "library" at a time, which does not include the books you do buy. You can still buy Kindle copies of books and there are a bunch of authors that offer Kindle Unlimited books.

This month I didn't buy any Kindle copies of books, I just read Kindle Unlimited.

*Please read any and all trigger warnings before diving into any of my read books*

*Darling Venom- Parker S. Huntington // 5*

Well, yeah, I think I just found my favorite read of 2022. Darling Venom is an enemies-to-lovers romance and it really breaks the mold there. The FMC's first love commits suicide and she is left to deal with the consequences... and his brother. The story is full of angst and love, and was actually a welcome reprieve from all my smutty books.

Filthy Rich Cadets- Jillian Frost // 4*

Shit, this book really starts off with a bang... literally; and my smutty loving mind loved the shit out of it. Anyways, I liked the book. It was a fast-paced bully romance (with a side of reverse harem), but I'm not entirely sure that I liked the bully romance side of it. To be honest, the FMC and MMC had a history- they grew up together and were best friends. After a traumatic death of a parent, the MMC cut the FMC out of his life, and then when they see each other again, he is a total ass to the FMC. They eventually get over whatever hang ups are there, but I didn't see a lot of redeeming qualities in the MMC. I will be reading the next one when it comes out, though. I really hate cliffys and need to know what is going on.

Merciless Kings- Becca Steele & C. Lymari // 3*

A reverse harem featuring some really hot from the wrong side of the tracks men. The FMC is in the middle of something, and even though she is trying to figure out why all of a sudden the hot men are interested in her, she is still clueless to everything around her. There wasn't any actual sex, but some other stuff with the mens; not saying that they didn't come close. In my opinion, the FMC seemed to be a bit of a pushover, but in the second half of the book, she starts to stand on her own two feet. This is another book that I will be reading the second one, cause I really, really hate cliffys and this one was brutal.

The Seduction of Pretty Lies- Holly Renee // 4*

This one was the the 5th book in the Boys of Clermont Bay series (which I've read), and it did not disappoint. This one is Olly and Frankie's story, and my heart literally bled for Frankie. Olly is one of her older brother's best friends, and since she and Olly both have feelings for each other, they start a summer fling. Well, the problems just snowballed from there... they had to keep it a secret, they both thought they could walk away, the older brother was a dipshit, he was leaving for college across the US... and in the end, it... well, just go read it. Yes, it does feature a girl in high school, but it was a sweet.

The Temptation of Dirty Secrets- Holly Renee // 4*

The 6th book in the Boys of Clermont Bay series, and the follow up to The Seduction of Pretty Lies is the conclusion of Olly and Frankie's story, and let me tell you... wow! So, Frankie is afraid that Olly is going to hurt her, so she essentially tells him to forget about her and find someone else; but then she gets all upset that he does just that! OMG! Olly keeps telling Frankie that he loves her and that no one else can compare to her, but then he gets engaged to his girlfriend. #facepalm I felt so bad for Olly all the way through the book. So, does Frankie finally get her head out of her ass and tell Olly how she feels? Well, you know how to find out.

Crooked Crows- Elena Lawson // 4*

A dark enemies to lovers romance with a side of reverse harem. The FMC, Ava Jade, was a bad ass. Having grown up always having to defend herself, she meets the Crows and fireworks go off. They soon start to realize that she is "like them" and well, things get interesting from there.

I Married a Birdman- Regine Abel // 3*

Another alien love book that is about a hybrid-birdman, Dakas, and human, Luana. Luana's colony is in trouble, and she seeks help from Dakas and his people. Dakas finds out that Luana is his "soul mate". Prime Mating Agency steps in and offers Luana a deal- marry Dakas and her colony will be saved. Do they fall in love? (Finished from January)

Captured Light- Raya Morris Edwards // 2*

A dark arranged-marriage mafia read that centers around Olivia and Lucien. Lucien is cold and doesn't believe in love, but Olivia wants love.

Wicked Knight- Tracy Lorraine // 3*

A dark bully mafia romance that surrounds Stella, who is a bad ass, and Sebastian, who needs a swift kick in the ass. Stella and Seb meet in a grave yard and do the naughty, and then Seb finds out who Stella actually is. This takes place before the book starts, and is hinted at by all the characters. Stella and Seb just can't stay away from each other, and Seb wants to make Stella's life a living hell. Seb is convinced that Stella knows about her mafia dad, but Stella has no idea. Does Seb finally get his head out of his ass? Read to find out.

Burn Out- CoraLee June // 4*

It is advertised as a dark high school romance, but I honestly didn't see anything dark about it. I did see a student/teacher older man/younger woman troupe, though and I thought it was actually very spicy. Blakely's mother dies and she goes to live with the older brother that her mother had given up for adoption, but had reconnected with before she died. Before meeting the older brother, Blakely meets his best friend- Decker- and they really don't see eye to eye. Decker basically threatens Blakely and tells her that he really hopes that she isn't there to mooch off her brother, who apparently has a heart of gold. Things happen, Decker gets Blakely a job, Decker and Blakely have some run ins, and then they start this secret romance. They both say that they are in love with each other and then Blakely says that she wants to go public about them, well, at least tell her brother, but then Decker flips out. More interesting things happen, so I recommend you read this to find out!

Dirty Kingdom- Amelia Winters // 3*

A dark bully romance with a smidge of reverse harem sprinkled in, Dirty Kingdom centers around Evelyn and her old bestfriend, Kingston; who moved away, but now is back and a total asshole. Basically Evelyn and her friend go to a party, where something happens to the friend, and Evelyn is being blackmailed by Kingston and his two friends to be their "pet". Things happen and then a big secret is revealed. There are some sexy parts, but all in all, I am just not sure that I liked the book. Yes, it was in the troupe that I usually love, but the way that Kingston treats Evelyn is just not excusable. He thinks that she is a whore and judges her almost through the entire book, without asking her if things are true (the big secret). There are 3 other books in the series and I am not entirely sure if I will be reading them or not.

*denotes a book that I have on my Amazon wish list and will be buying a physical copy of*
