"You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery, and I promise you something great will come of it." - Benjamin Mee (played by Matt Damon) "We Bought a Zoo"
Everyone has been writing posts about the one word that they are using to describe 2014, and I have debated about actually following suit and choosing my own. My mind was finally decided when I watched the movie "We Bought a Zoo" with Lil Man. Have you seen it? If not, I definitely recommend it, as it is a super cute family movie. In the movie, the Dad is talking to his son about courage. At that moment, I decided that I would not only pick a word for 2014, but pick three and even write a post about them. My words for 2014:
I chose the word not only because of the quote behind it, but because it's the one thing that I lack. I pride myself in being totally honest with people that I don't know, but when it comes to my family and standing up for myself, I fold under the pressure. There are just some things that I don't agree on, and most of the time, I choose to keep my mouth shut for my sanity. By that I mean that I hate conflict, and keeping my thoughts to myself preserves peoples feelings and the peace. This year is going to be the year that I have the courage to stand up for myself, my Hubby, and Lil Man.
Another thing that I severely lack is patience. Becoming a mother has helped with this deficiency, but it still lingers in the background. I want everything right now. I hate waiting. Therefore, this year is going to be the year that I learn to just let it be. To realize that everything takes time, and "good things come to those who wait."
Sure it may be two words, but Carpe Diem is going to be my motto for 2014. I am tired of using the whole "Just chuck it in the fuck-it bucket and move on", because it just signifies that you just don't care anymore. In short, it's a bunch of BS. Why not try to "seize the day" everyday? That's what I am going to try to do. In short, I am going to try and write meaningful posts and schedule them, instead of writing them the day of. I am going to get myself and Lil Man on a schedule, and try to make the most of each day, instead of just watching TV in out jammies, everyday, all day. I am going to try and be proactive about Grad school, instead of waiting until the last moment to do my homework and freaking out. Yeah, ok, I know it really wasn't that short.
Yep, that about sums up my three words. Thank you Erin! (btw... the source is linking to her goals of '14)
What is your word or words for 2014?
I like that you went above and beyond and picked THREE! All great ones I might add!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! I have thought a lot about the word 'patience' as well as my word for 2014. Patience for others, in times of stress and most importantly patience in myself. I can not always be this super person that I hope to be, so patience in myself. :)
